Project duration: 2026 – 2028
Changing vegetation patterns, limited nutrient inputs, the loss of active ingredients for disease control, and a strong focus on yield in the breeding of new quality wheat varieties have resulted in, among other things, fluctuating yields, decreasing protein quality, and an increase in disease and pest pressure.
As a result, the competitiveness of Saxon agricultural businesses is increasingly at risk. With this in mind, the project focuses on testing innovative products in conventional and organic farming, specifically in the crops rapeseed, wheat, silage maize, and grain maize. These products include stress-reducing bio-stimulants, N-fixing bacteria, ear fertilizers, and alternative seed treatment methods. To this end, multi-year, precise field trials are being conducted and evaluated in representative regions of Saxony. The aim is to introduce statistically validated findings regarding the optimized use of the aforementioned products, based on weather data into the standard production processes of companies. This is intended to make a significant contribution to ensuring the long-term success of food production by Saxon farmers.
